Join us on view days to look around the saleroom, you'll be amazed to find the fabulous objects of days gone by as well as contemporary design and furnishings. Our evening views are perfect for those who wish to attend after work, and if you can't attend the actual sale you can always leave a bid with us.

Viewing days are scheduled as followed:

Fortnightly Silver, Jewellery, Toys and Collectibles Sales (Commencing Tuesday 2pm) and the fortnightly Antiques, Interiors, Ceramics and Glass Sales (Commencing Wednesday 10am) at the Derby Saleroom viewing is scheduled for the Tuesday between 10am and 6pm and on the morning of the Wednesday sale from 9am. 

Specialist sales will be on view at the same time as the fortnightly sales on the Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Bakewell Saleroom fortnightly Antiques, Interiors, Ceramics and Glass Sales are on view on the Tuesday before sale from 10am until 6pm and on the morning of sale from 9am.  

Three Day Fine Art Sales are scheduled for the Sunday and Monday Prior to the sale between 2pm and 5pm, Tuesday prior to the sale between 1pm and 7pm and on the morning of the sale from 9am.

Four Day Fine Art Sales are scheduled for the Sunday prior to the sale between 2pm and 5pm, Monday prior to the sale between 1pm and 7pm and on the morning of the sale from 9am.

For Viewing outside the published times please ring reception and we will try and accomodate, subject to staffing available.

PLEASE NOTE : We do not comment on condition in our lot descriptions but It is our policy to offer a full condition report service on items offered for sale at Bamfords. We are happy to comment on the condition of any lot and to take further images and answer specific questions which will be posted to the website to assist in you in making an informed decision to bid.  Please note that all sizes, dimensions and weights are approximate.

Sale Days

Everyone is welcome to come along to enjoy the atmosphere. If you wish to bid please register and obtain a paddle number from reception, it's free. Don't worry about winking, sneezing or twitching, bidding is simple, just raise your number.

Weekly Victorian, Edwardian and General sales include general household furniture and effets.
Quarterly Specialist Collectors' sales include toys, postcards, medals, cigarette cards, stamps, etc.
Quarterly Antiques and Fine Art sales include fine ceramics, glass, silver, jewellery, pictures, furniture, clocks and works of art.
Periodic Country House and Estate sales can include everything from the front door knocker to undiscovered treasures in the attic.

If you cannot attend the sale, we will carry out your bids up to the price you specify - we will bid to obtain the cheapest price for you. You may instruct a 'Plus One Bid' which may save you from just missing out, in which case write '+1' against the item. Absentee bidding forms are available from reception, in the back of your catalogue or downloadable from our website. If there are two commission bids of the same value, preference is given to the bid which was received first.
Telephone bids are accepted on lots that have an estimated value of over £500. It is reasonable to expect that you would be prepared to bid for the lot over the top end of the auction estimate. All telephone bids must be confirmed in writing and be accepted at least 24 hours before the start of the auction.
Commission bids can also be placed online via the lot page you are interested in, by following this simple and fast process you will never miss a lot again.

Payment and Delivery

If your bid is successful you can pay in person by debit or cash, if you are not paying in person you may pay by debit card over the telephone or by bank transfer. Bamfords charge 21% Buyers' Premium plus VAT on the hammer price of each lot, there is no minimum charge. Live online bidding is available for all of our sales via  The charge for using this service is 5.5% of the hammer price of each lot + VAT.  This will be added to the total invoice.

The purchaser shall pay the hammer price together with a premium of 21% of the hammer price for the Antique and Collectors Sales. The amount invoiced will be premium plus VAT (where VAT is chargeable) but this VAT will not normally be recoverable by the buyer. The vendor authorises the Auctioneer to deduct commission and expenses at the stated rates from the hammer price and acknowledges the Auctioneer’s right to retain the premium payable by the purchaser.

All items must be collected within one week of purchase, failure to collect the lot will result in storage charges being applied at a rate of £10 per lot per day + VAT.  Once the storage fees exceed the value of the item purchased, all buyers rights are waived and Bamfords reserve the right to sell the item to recover storage charges incurred

Any lot purchased through the services of ATG Media will be subject to a further charge of 5.5% of the hammer price (plus VAT where chargeable) 

If you can't collect your items on the day of the sale, don't worry, we are happy to keep them for you until the end of the week. If you need to arrange transport please ask our removals desk for a competitive quote. Bamfords can offer postage on items of a small and non fragile nature and can recommend carriers who are quick and economical to use if you require larger or higher value items posting or require your lots quickly.  Full details can be obtained by calling reception on 01332 210000 for the Derby Saleroom, or 01629 730920 for the Bakewell Saleroom. Please be aware that we cannot offer postage of weapons, ceramics, jewellery or paintings and pictures and we do not offer postage internationally. We can recommend our local Mailboxes or Post-iT for pack and send services on items we cannot offer to send.

For collections Bamfords are open Monday - Friday 9am - 5.30pm, we are open the third Saturday of the month for valuations and can, if requested, bring the item(s) to reception for collection.

All couriers should bring identification, proof of payment and buyers details.
